Marlena Somthing or Another

Slice of Life #21
Marlena Something or Another
March 22, 2009

“Uggghhh! More political signs”, I told dad. It is ILLEGAL to hang up political signs in Clayton. It makes the whole neighborhood look polluted.

The sign read something like “Marlena something or another”, not like I really cared anyway, I can’t vote. The lady on the sign had reddish brown hair and the palest face I had ever seen. She was plastered in makeup; It looked unnatural, like something from a horror movie.

Just as dad was driving towards our street, I saw three people putting up more political signs. I stared at them wondering who they where. Two men where standing near one of the light posts. A lady- one I had not noticed before- had her face blocked by the political sign. Curiously, I continued to stare at her. Just as dad drove the car down our street…the face appeared from behind the “Marlena” sign.

I gasped…the face was the same pale skin, same reddish brown hair, and same face plastered with makeup…it was Marlena something or another. She looked different though.

This time, the Marlena something or another, wasn’t smiling the way she did on her poster; She had a small frown spread across her makeup face. She’s probably tired from putting up her signs, I thought.

“Gees, they sure do make people look a lot prettier on political signs!” I thought, as dad’s car drove down the street.

Note to reader: I you or anyone else you know, was planning on voting for Marlena something or another, this story was not written to make you change your mind or not like her anymore.
